Visiting Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG aquarium is a must stop destination to make any Pittsburgh summer complete, thats for sure. An opportunity to inhabit and preserve the lives of so many rare and beautiful creatures of this earth is not the only thing that lies behind the gates in Highland Park, but an opportunity to foster a moment of bonding between nature, family and friends. Visiting the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium on any of the 362 days in the year (the only three days where the Zoo is closed being Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day) is always a thrill, but somehow, days can be made even more special with the countless special events planned all throughout these next couple summer months. Events like these are designed to capture the curiosities of people of all ages. (So, parents, even if you won’t admit it, you can live vicariously through your children when you attend these events!)

Eat’n Park Family Week: A Trip around the World-No Passport Required

No travel plans this summer, no worries! Join the Zoo Crew as they travel to a new destination throughout the zoo each day. Meet the zookeepers and learn about the animals inhabiting that part of the world. Enjoy themed activities, music, and much more from 11am-3pm each day!

Be A Diver Tour
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Try scuba in a 20×30 ft, 15,000 gallon, heated pool! During the past ten years tens of thousands of people have been introduced to scuba diving at a “Be a Diver Pool”. Now it’s your turn! Anyone age 10 and older can discover the fun and exciting sport of scuba diving in the comfort of a tropically warm pool (10 and 11 need to be accompanied by an adult in the pool). Bring your swim suit – the zoo will supply all the scuba gear! It’s a great way to try scuba diving and test some of the latest scuba equipment. You can also have a photo of yourself taken underwater as a keepsake of your “diving adventure.”
For Scuba minimums: age 10 – 10 and 11 year olds need to be accompanied by adult in the pool. Must be 54 inches or taller.
This is a free event with zoo admission, just bring a swim suit! Register day of event.

Festival of Colors
Later in the summer, the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium also is having a Festival of Color. Create a sand art masterpiece, watch animal painting demonstrations, create chalk art alongside our extremely talented chalk artist, get airbrush tattoos, and tie-dye t-shirts. Don’t forget to bring a white t-shirt to tie dye with all of your favorite colors or purchase a white t-shirt with the zoo logo. All activities are included with general admission.
