Idlewild Park and Soak Zone is not only a staple destination in a Pittsburgher’s summertime adventures, but did you know The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission recognized Idlewild Park as one of the longest running amusement parks in Pennsylvania, too? For years (138 to be exact!), Pittsburgh inhabitants have enjoyed their time on the grounds of Idlewild park, with years of memories made.
The evolution of the now dual amusement and waterpark has had quite the timeline. It began has a campground that resided on each side of the Ligonier Valley Railroad track, providing a recreational site for fishing and family gathering right alongside the railroad. Soon, rides and attractions began to be added (including a 3-row Philadelphia Toboggan Company carousel, which can still be ridden in the park!) Today, Idlewild is home to 30 rides to be fully enjoyed by the family.
This doesn’t include the SoakZone, however. From twisting slides, to opportunities to watch kids blast their parents in the face with a watergun, to relaxing down Lazy River, there are tons of ways to enjoy the water under the greater Pittsburgh area sun.
Private Cabana’s are available for making the entire family comfortable at Idlewild. They are available on a daily basis, starting at $29.99 on a weekday for a SoakZone cabana. Prices vary depending on days and amenities. They make the perfect opportunity to keep your family grounded as you all explore the park, as well as some much needed shade when you need a break from exploring everywhere between Story Book Forest to Racoon Lagoon (we’ve all fallen victim to underestimating the power of Pittsburgh sunshine). Visit https://www.idlewild.com/plan-a-visit/cabanas to see a complete list of the various types of cabana’s offered.
